What Is Wrong With Our Relationships?
HS (Holy Spirit): There is something wrong with all of your relationships.
ME: What? ALL of them? What is it?
HS: Not just your relationships, but also everyone else’s.
ME: Well, yes I can see that. As a whole, we’re mostly awful towards one another.
HS: The problem is, you all have unholy relationships with one another.
ME: Please explain to me what that is.
HS: I will do so with a quote directly from “A Course In Miracles:”
“For an unholy relationship is based on differences, where each one thinks the other has what he has not.” (ACIM Ch.22 2.5)
ME: Oh yes, I can totally see that! We are constantly comparing ourselves to one another in every imaginable way. We live by our judgments of what we see in one another’s bodies and what those bodies have or don’t have. So if an unholy relationship is based upon comparisons of what we see on our outsides, then a “holy relationship” must deal with what is within us?
HS: Again, I will describe it using a quote from ACIM:
“A holy relationship starts from a different premise. Each one has looked within and seen no lack. Accepting his completion, he would extend it by joining with another, whole as himself. He sees no differences between these selves, for differences are only of the body.” (ACIM Ch.22.Intro.3.1-4)
“Think what a holy relationship can teach! Here is belief in differences undone. Here is the faith in differences shifted to sameness.” (ACIM Ch.22.Intro.4.1-3)
“Reason now can lead you and your brother to the logical conclusion of your union.” (ACIM Ch.22.Intro.5.1)
“Here is the golden circle where you recognize the Son of God.” (ACIM Ch.22.Intro.5.9)
ME: Ah ha, and seeing the Holy Spirit within one another rather than the differences our bodies present, is how we see past all our exteriors and Your Light within others instead?
HS: Yes, precisely. You are merely accepting what is already true about you. The body will wither and die one day, but your Light remains for all eternity. A holy relationship sees only this in another, knowing that only this is what is true about him.
And this is how Christ will return to the world again – through each of you seeing Him in one another. And through this means, Christ will enter each of your relationships - healing it and making it holy instead of filled with pain and sorrow. This is how you will each welcome Him into the world.
“Christ comes to what is like Himself; the same, not different. For He is always drawn unto Himself. What is as like Him as a holy relationship?” (ACIM Ch.22.I.11.1-3)
ME: If Christ is drawn to our holy relationships, then it seems to me that these relationships should be a very valuable thing to us.
HS: Yes. Your holy relationships are the most valuable thing you could ever seek. One holy relationship would heal your mind instantly the moment you recognized Me in another.
“And who is drawn to Christ is drawn to God as surely as Both are drawn to every holy relationship, the home prepared for Them as earth is turned to Heaven.” (ACIM Ch.22.I.11.9)
ME: I can’t wait for the earth to be transformed into Heaven!
HS: The doorway is open now. Simply trust in your brothers who are One with you through Me within them.
ME: Easier said than done. My mind becomes filled with what my “brothers” say and do once we end these conversations.
HS: All you must do is watch your thoughts. Remember to turn your thoughts back over to Me and allow your mind to be still an instant. Just cease all your thinking about the world and you bring your mind Home to Me. You will know this is successful by the brief measure of peace you feel when you do this.
ME: I wish the brief little respites of peace I get from doing that would last.
HS: This brief measure of peace is more profound than you could ever realize. In these small moments, you are literally calling on My Name. You call upon the power of All That Is to rescue you from this place when you let your thoughts be still for just an instant. So let all little things be silent in your mind as often as possible, and soon this state will become your new normal.
ME: That does motivate me to want to remember to still my thoughts with renewed enthusiasm.
HS: Indeed. My Name is your inheritance. It is beyond all symbols and words. It is a state of inner peace and stillness that surpasses anything you have ever known. It is a state of knowing your Unity in Me. Call on My Name through the inner stillness of your mind as often as possible.
ME: Inner stillness is sometimes the furthest thing from my mind.
HS: It is as near as your very thoughts. Let go of all your thoughts as they pertain to this world – even if it is for but an instant. You only have to want the peace of God. This small willingness is enough to transform your unholy relationships, your world, and your life, into the beauty of My Eternal Peace.
