“It seems that we are faced with processing atrocities world-wide every day. As old situations pass from the media, new ones arise, and in legion. This is all in addition to our own personal struggles with daily life problems.
How do we navigate so many landmines that threaten to blow up our inner peace? A Course In Miracles states, “Forgiveness is the key to happiness. Here is the answer to your search for peace. Here is the key to meaning in a world that seems to make no sense. Here is the way to safety in apparent dangers that appear to threaten you at every turn, and bring uncertainty to all your hopes of ever finding quietness and peace. Here are all questions answered; here the end of all uncertainty ensured at last.” (ACIM W. Lesson 121 1:1-4)
This sounds beautiful in writing, but how do we achieve forgiveness in the face of continuous upset and outrage? How do we forgive what appears unforgivable?
I have often contemplated my own reaction if someone were to murder my children, and for many years, I knew that I would not be able to apply the principles of forgiveness the Course offered. I would be inconsolably angry at whomever committed such a crime. And I had no idea how I would ever heal from such an experience.
Now, after nearly two decades of practicing offering miracles to my “small problems” – and successfully healing them – I have a strong grasp of how to apply miracles to all problems. For truly, there is no order of difficulty in miracles. And if it is a miracle to forgive, then there is no order of difficulty in what can be forgiven.
So, let’s apply forgiveness now, to the world, to our personal lives and to All That Is. We want to do this because we want to be happy. We want to heal ourselves and the world.”
