Our Defenses Are Futile

HS (Holy Spirit): Your defenses are futile, and this should be the happiest news you have ever received in the whole of your existence.

ME:  What defenses?

HS:  When you defend yourself you are attacked.

ME:  I don’t know if I should say “Well duh!” to that statement, or be utterly confused by it.

HS:  The “self” that you think needs protection is not real. The body, which is your false identity, is valueless and hardly worth the least defense.

ME:  I am not sure I understand how I am “defending” my false identity as a body.

HS:  You are defending it whenever you react to what happens to it as real.  You are defending its reality through perpetuating your identification with it.  This in turn is an attack against your True Identity as One with Me.  Your false “body” self appears separate, but separateness is not your true state.  Do not defend your separation from Me by insisting you are a body.

ME:  Well how do I undo my defense against the truth of my Oneness with You?

HS:  The body need merely be perceived as what it is: something quite apart from you.  When you do so, it becomes a healthy, useful instrument through which the mind can operate until its usefulness is over.

ME:  You mean until I die?

HS:  You cannot die.  You merely shift from one identity to another.  And you can experience this now, in your mind, without death of the body. All you must do is something many have never done: for one holy instant, you must utterly forget your body. Afterwards, you will return to seeing the body, but never quite the same as you did before.

ME:  Whew!  Well that’s a relief.  So all I have to do is dissociate my mind from the body as my identity and associate it with my Inner Light instead?  For one holy instant?

HS:  Yes.  Cease to defend the body by identifying with its faults, weaknesses and all its limits and lacks.  When you identify with these things, you have attacked the truth of your mind, which is none of those things.  You have told yourself a lie in order to keep the illusion of your false identity alive. And so you think the body must be saved from all these things in order to maintain its illusion.

ME:  So I can’t think of myself as being insulted, unfairly treated or offended or weak or in pain?  That sounds like a tall order.

HS:  These are the thoughts in need of healing, and when they are healed, the body will respond with health.

ME:  These thoughts seem to occupy our minds all the time. There seems to be so much to worry about.

HS:  A healed mind does not plan.  It carries out the plans that it receives through listening to My wisdom and not its own.  A healed mind waits until it has been taught what should be done, and then proceeds to do it.

ME:  It is difficult for me to trust on that level. No plans of my own?  Are You crazy?  What should I do?  Lie in my bed all day and wait for You to do something?

HS:  Let Me explain this further.  The mind engaged in planning for itself is occupied in setting up control of future happenings.  It does not think it will be provided for, unless it makes its own provisions.  Worrying about the future happiness of your body is just another attack against the truth of your peace and Oneness in Me.  With that being said, use your common sense.  Make prudent and wise choices as are necessary, but leave their outcome to Me. Do not place your happiness in outcomes as your ego sees fit.  It does not have even your own best interests at heart.  Its only interest is in keeping your mind preoccupied with the illusion so it can maintain its existence.

ME:  I’m not sure how to do that.

HS:  Simply stop supporting the idea you are a body.  Your defenses are the plans you undertake to make against the truth.  The aim of your ego is to select what you approve, and disregard what you consider incompatible with what you desire.  Cease to resist “what is.”   Cease to demand that life and all its myriad of variable circumstances and outcomes align to what your ego wants.

ME:  Some outcomes in life are very hard to accept and we can’t help but to want certain outcomes.

HS:  What could you not accept, if you but knew that everything that happens has been carefully coordinated prior to your coming here and agreed upon by us both?  What if you fully understood that all events, past, present and future, have been gently planned in accordance with Me, Whose only intention is your highest good?

ME:  Sigh.  I just wish the process of acceptance of “what is” were easier.

HS:  It can be made much easier.  Just switch your defenses.  Rather than defending your identity as a body, change your defense to the proper identity: your Identity in Union with Me; an Identity that promises a peaceful future, without a trace of sorrow, and with everlasting joy, as this life is transformed by the holy instant, yet still set here in time, but only acknowledging your immortality.

ME:  Yes, I would like to switch teams from defending the ego to defending the Truth about us.

HS:  Then let healing be accomplished in you by seeing that the body has no power to attack the Universal Oneness of your Sonship in Me. Your defenses against Me are futile. What I have joined can never be separated.  You can only dream a dream of separation, but never make it true.
